 Cycles disorders

The menstrual cycles characterize the reproductive life of the woman and represent a regular monthly event indicative of the female nature. Any abnormality in the menstrual cycle is cause for concern, often justified.

The menstrual cycle is regulated by important glands and organs of the body such as the pituitary gland, the hypothalamus, the thyroid and the ovaries. Any disturbance in the functioning or interaction of these organs causes a hormonal balance disturbance and the appearance of various problems and disturbances in the duration of the menstrual cycle.

The most common abnormalities of the female reproductive cycle are:

  • Menstrual irregularity:

– Amenorrhea (absence of menstruation).
– Menorrhagia (haemorrhagic menstruation)
– Metrorrhagia (bleeding between cycles).

  • Premenstrual Syndrome.

  • Dysmenorrhea (painful menses).

In the case of a disrupted menstrual cycle, the first thing to be excluded is pregnancy.

Other causes are:

  • Significant weight loss and eating disorders such as neurogenic anorexia or bulimia.

  • Intense sporting activity.

  • Stress.

  • Change of environment.

  • Menopause or perimenopause.

  • Menarche.

  • Some drugs.

  • Hormonal problems such as thyroid problems.

  • Breastfeeding.
